The Bushwhack Series. A three-day festival devoted to the development of new work within the neighborhood of Bushwick. Five performing artists/groups will present new and developing work—participating artists work in experimental theater, dance theater, opera, multi-media, and puppetry, and include: The National Theater of the United States of America (NTUSA), Amanda Maddock, Ann and Alexx Make Dances, Chris Ajemian, and Bushwick's own ConLab. The Memorial Day Weekend tradition also includes the DanceAfrica bazaar, art exhibition, dance master classes, African films, outdoor performers, and live music in BAMcafé.BAM presents their annual festival of African dance, featuring Ceesay Kujabi and the Bachinab, Giwayen Mata, LaRocque Bey School of Dance Theatre, Inc., and BAM/Restoration DanceAfrica Ensemble.

Lower East Side Festival of the Arts. Theater for the New City presents the 13th annual Lower East Side Festival of the Arts. More than 100 performing arts organizations, local and international celebrities, independent artists, poets, puppeteers, film makers and many others—all of whom reside, work or have their roots in the culturally diverse, willfully anarchistic Lower East Side—will participate in this festival, including: jazz musician David Amram; talk show host Joe Franklin; performance artists Reno and Penny Arcade; downtown favorites Jim Neu, Black Eyed Susan, and Epstein & Hassan; theatre and dance companies such as Rod Rodgers Dance Company, The Wendy Osserman Dance Company, Joe's Pub, New York Theater Workshop, The Mariana Bekerman Dance Company, The Red Bastard, and many more. Plus, there will be new works by established and rapidly rising playwrights including Barbara Kahn, Lissa Moira, Larry Myers, Bina Sharif, James Rado and others.

Toy Theatre Festival. Great Small Works presents their 8th annual festival of toy theater, including works by puppet theatre companies and miniaturists, at St. Ann's Warehouse. Participants include: Paul Zaloom; veteran puppeteer Lynn Jeffries; Frank Maugeri of Redmoon Theater; renowned French puppeteer Alain Lecucq; and Ravi Gopalan Nair and Parvathy Baul connecting West Bengal traditional puppet theater and Toy Theater of Victorian Europe.
