So Help Me God! is a wickedly witty backstage comedy—a comic collision between 42nd Street and All About Eve: the story of a fabulous dramatic diva who decides she wants to do serious drama—just so long as it's fabulous—and the innocent, young ingenue from Cincinnati who wants to take her place. This hilarious play was written by one of America's great, neglected female authors, Maurine Dallas Watkins, the author of the 1927 play Chicago upon which the musical is based.
