E Phoenix Idealis Theater, Inc. will bring their 2009 season to a close with Lillian Hellman's classic The Children's Hour. The Children's Hour is a powerful psychological drama about the power of a malicious child's vindictive lie about her two teachers that shatters their lives and the lives of those around them. The story centers around a private school for girls run by Karen Wright and Martha Dobie. Martha's Aunt Lily, an older, unemployed actress lives with them and teaches elocution. Karen is engaged to Dr. Joe Cardin, whose wealthy aunt, Mrs. Amelia Tilford has lent her support to the school to ensure its success. Mrs. Tilford's granddaughter Mary is also a student at the school. Mary is an angry, problematic child who often bullies her classmates. One particular day, Mary is caught telling a lie and is subsequently disciplined. A furious Mary exacts her revenge by inventing a lie about the two headmistresses and tells this lie to her grandmother. The accusation exacts dire consequences on all involved.
