Wish We Were Here

Produced by Bowdashoot Productions

Author: Michael Phillis

Wish We Were Here is the story of an acerbic genie and her slacker master who are stuck together forever by his wish for infinite wishes. The play begins six months into this dysfunctional relationship, with the two characters beginning to resemble an old married couple bickering constantly — sort of like "I Nightmare of Genie."

In addition to the fast-paced comic banter, Wish We Were Here contains an unassuming message about individualism and our responsibility to society. By incorporating fantasy into reality, the play explores the impact one man or woman can have — or not have — on the world around them. Plus there's near-nudity…and a dance-off!

I chose to present Wish We Were Here because it gave me a chance to work with one of my favorite actresses, Christine Corpuz. I wrote the Genie character specifically for her, and I'm so delighted that she will be bringing her amazing comic sensibility to the role. You won't want to miss her performance!
