Green Eyes
Produced by Diana Glazer, Steve Tate, Leopold Group
Author: Lizzie Leopold, Brian Mazzaferri, and Jessica Redish
Our show is a folk-rock modern-dance musical about young love; the oldest story in the world told in a new way. Expect to see young lovers throwing themselves into a modern relationship, one that doesn't begin once upon a time and goes on well past the happily ever after. Expect to hear folk-rock songs you'd have on your iPod, and to see dance that is more human and physically real than most musicals. Most of all, expect to see yourself in the relationship unfolding in front of you.
These days everyone is trying to figure out what a 21st century musical looks and sounds like. This year's Broadway season was filled with beautiful experiments and ideas in that vein, and Green Eyes is another bold attempt to reimagine the book musical, with folk-rock music and modern dance, and an honest and gritty look at modern love.
Without realizing it, we created Green Eyes as a sort of form of collective catharsis: for those who feel like they're drowning in their relationships and can't get any perspective, for those who narrowly escaped a destructive relationship they still somehow miss, for those who narrowly escaped a destructive relationship and somehow don't miss it at all, for those who try to find love in the 21st century. Green Eyes gives us perspective on the human experience of attempting to find love, and it helps. It has for many who have seen it in various incarnations, and if you need it, it will for you.
