Forteez Bluntz Chickenhedz 'N' Uva Necessateez
Produced by Nommo Productions
Author: Bashi Rose
Forteez Bluntz Chickenhedz 'N' Uva Necessateez is a play about two homeless poets — father and son — who are burdened yet inspired by the weight of history and their ancestors. The play follows them as they search for the missing piece of their family, the woman who is a daughter to one and a sister to the other. Hearing her voice via the spirit world and dreams, they race against time and what they perceive as a profit-driven world to protect the woman they love. Using poetic language, they cry out to each other and to the world for clarity and understanding. Original drumbeats and music are integrated into the narrative to highlight the emotional intensity of the story as it unfolds.
Forteez addresses the notion of America as a so-called bastion of democracy. In this current climate of the Iraq war and the mainstream media's attack on strong voices that tell the honest truth about this country's past and present, Forteez will surely fuel more lively debate. It will also entertain and take you on the personal journey of two troubled yet vibrant souls.
One reason I decided to enter Forteez in the festival was because it offered me an opportunity to work with Christopher McElroen and Jaime Carrillo of The Classical Theatre Of Harlem. I wandered into their theater one day and we've been in touch ever since. They've seen Forteez enough times to understand where I was headed with it as writer, director and co-actor. Now Chris (Director) and Jaime (Assistant Director) will be interpreting Forteez with a fresh and creative perspective. The other reason I entered Forteez is because my mentor, friend, teacher, and actor, Mitchell Ferguson will have the opportunity to bless the New York stage. I can't wait to see it!
