America 20XX

Produced by Wacky Hijinks

Author: Cyriaque Lamar

America 20XX is a one-act comedy that follows America's last superheroes, the Power Patriots, on their quest to rescue citizens from the twin evils of civic apathy and iDol, a malevolent computer virus. Our production squad often agonizes over what constitutes a satisfactory summary of America 20XX.  In layman's terms, America 20XX is "sci-fi political satire."  Sometimes we hyperbolize the show as "EXTREME POLITICAL SCIENCE FICTION" (all in caps, for added thrills). Perhaps the best synopsis is "an unapologetically garish bouillabaisse of Alexis de Tocqueville's political philosophy, Captain America's spandex-clad patriotism, and every sci-fi cliché known to man, served with a side order of psilocybin and farting synthesizers." Yup. That ought to do it.

You should see America 20XX because… 1.)  America 20XX is a special FX-laden summer blockbuster (with a budget that wouldn't cover an indie film's catering bill); 2.)  The cast of America 20XX is reasonably attractive; 3.)  America 20XX features a crowd-pleasing romance (that makes no sense whatsoever); 4.)  America 20XX deconstructs the aesthetic limitations of topical political satire; 5.) There's a giant robot battle in the first 10 minutes of the show; 6.) The America 20XX programs are made of money*. *DISCLAIMER: This money is from the year 20XX.  In the year 20XX, the only means of economic exchange are America 20XX programs.

We're presenting America 20XX because…1.) We're frustrated with the zero-sum partisanship of American politics that is Balkanizing American civil society; 2.) We want to parody the smug self-importance of much modern American political satire; 3) We want to showcase the comic repertoire of Wacky Hijinks, Rutgers University's oldest sketch comedy troupe; 4.)  It gave us an excuse to buy the website www.America20XX.com (which is incidentally jam-packed with information and mirth); 5.) We want to entertain the heck out of you.
