nytheatre.com's mission and history
Online since 1997, nytheatre.com was one of the first theatre information/review websites on the Internet. Today, we are the leading nonprofit web resource for NYC theatre, serving the entire theatre community and focusing particular resources on the indie theater sector. Check out links in the sidebar at left to see all of the features on nytheatre.com.
Founding editor Martin Denton began the site as "Martin's Guide to New York Theatre" back in 1996. He continues as editor and chief reviewer for the site. Martin is also Executive Director of nytheatre.com's parent company, The New York Theatre Experience, Inc. (NYTE), a nonprofit corporation. Content is also provided for nytheatre.com by our Managing Director Rochelle Denton, and by dozens of volunteers.
Affiliated websites
nytheatre.com is just one part of NYTE's diverse web presence. NYTE is a nonprofit media company that publishes play anthologies (the Plays and Playwrights series and others) and produces podcasts (nytheatrecast). In addition, NYTE produces indietheater.org, a new theatre website devoted to the indie theater scene; and mobile.nytheatre.com, a streamlined version of nytheatre.com designed for cellphones, PDAs, blackberries, etc.
nytheatre.com's staff maintains two blogs: the nytheatre i, written by Martin Denton, which focuses on trends in NYC theatre and news about nytheatre.com and its consituencies; and Plays and Playwrights, written by Rochelle Denton and dealing with news about the playwrights published in NYTE's anthologies.
