Strike Up the Band

nytheatre.com q&a preview by william thomas evans
March 5, 2013

What is your job on this show?
actor.

What is your show about?
Great music and singing, a ridiculous story of going to war over cheese

When did you know you wanted to work in the theater, and why?
I think it was the first time i heard Les Miserables on a cassette tape, yes...lol. My life changed.

Why do you do theater (as opposed to film, or TV, or something not in the entertainment field)?
there is nothing like performing live in front of an audience. it can be electric. The audience becomes one of the characters in the musical or play and no two shows will ever be the same

Why did you want to write/direct/produce/act in/work on this show?
I wanted to work on Strike Up the Band because it is a Gershwin show from 1927. It is rare to work on gems like this. It is like taking a great class on old musicals.... Did I say 1927 and Gershwin...need i say any more

Which mythical character would like your show the best: Cyclops, Cupid, Paul Bunyan or the Easter Bunny?
Paul Bunyan....he's apple pie, patriotic,he probably sings every morning

If you had ten million dollars that you had to spend on theatrical endeavors, how would you use the money?
I would produce my own musical....it's good! If you have the money...call me
