Nuclear Love Affair

nytheatre.com q&a preview by Sanaz Ghajarrahimi
August 22, 2012

What is your job on this show?
Writer and Director.

What type of theater do you like most to work on?
The bold. The outrageous. The offensive.

Complete this sentence: My show is the only one opening in NYC this fall that...?
features Elvis, Marilyn Monroe, Charlie Chaplin, Burt the Turtle, Lucille Ball AND an Atomic CAKE!

In your own words, what do you think this show is about? What will audiences take away with them after seeing it?
It's about power structures. Between nations... and between people... It's about nuclear bombs. It's about what a fucking mess it is to be alive. And it does it with humor, seduction and violence. The show asks: How do we go on living in such a dangerous world? How did we end up so thoroughly destroying what was once such a good thing? It's about national heartbreak. It's about hope. Most of all, it's about the moon. I want the audience to leave the show with a renewed sense of passion, concern, sensitivity and interest in their past and future.

Groucho, Chico, Harpo, or Zeppo?
Chico

Who are your heroes?
Patti Smith, Daniel Ellsberg, Pina Bausch and Captain Planet
