Bedbugs!!!

nytheatre.com q&a preview by Philip Heckman
September 23, 2012

What is your job on this show?
COSTUME DESIGNER.

What type of theater do you like most to work on?
I love new musicals and I love anything with a rock n roll edge which makes BEDBUGS!!! the perfect project. Throw in some science fiction and unconventional casting and it becomes a costume designer's dream come true.

Why do you do theater (as opposed to film, or TV, or something not in the entertainment field)?
I enjoy costume designing for all media. I just recently completed FORBIDDEN BROADWAY: ALIVE & KICKING and before that, I designed costumes for television's AS THE WORLD TURNS where I was nominated for a daytime Emmy Award in Costume Excellence. I have also costumed independent films, cabaret shows, commercials, industrials and photo shoots for books and magazines.

Do you think the audience will talk about your show for 5 minutes, an hour, or way into the wee hours of the night?
I think there will be two types of conversations regarding BEDBUGS!!! The conversations that will happen before seeing the show and the conversations that will happen after the show. I do not think that anyone can anticipate what they will experience during BEDBUGS!!! but I guarantee that everyone will want to share that experience with their friends and loved ones.

Which “S” word best describes your show: SMOOTH, SEXY, SMART, SURPRISING?
Actually, all 4 of the "S" words describe BEDBUGS!!! The Sci-Fi Thriller Rock Musical Comedy perfectly.

If you had ten million dollars that you had to spend on theatrical endeavors, how would you use the money?
Money can be either a blessing or a curse when figuring out the design and direction of a play or musical. Believe me, everyone on BEDBUGS!!! would love to have ten million dollars. Because we do not have ten million dollars the designers have all approached the project with a very unique point of view that has taken BEDBUGS!!! to the next level. There is not another show like it off-Broadway.
