Margarita and Max q&a preview by Manuel Igrejas
June 17, 2013

What is your job on this show?

What is your show about?
A lonely woman, a windy day, a plastic bag, a love story

When did you know you wanted to work in the theater, and why?
Saw Oliver! on Broadway when I was a pup. I think I shook with excitement the whole time. I couldn't imagine how I would get there. In my late 20's, the long crawl to showbiz began in earnest.

What are some of your previous theater credits? (Be specific! Name shows, etc.)
As a publcist, Blue Man Group, STREB, Richard Foreman. As a playwright: Shrinkage (2004) Kitty and Lina (2008) Miss Mary Dugan (2009 and 2012), Hassan and Sylvia (2010) Pittsburgh! and XYZ (2012). And now Margarita and Max.

How did you meet your fellow artists/collaborators on this show?
David Hilder directed Miss Mary Dugan in 2009 and Hassan and Sylvia in 2010. I love working with him and he's a good friend. Craig Fox was in Miss Mary Dugan in 2009 and 2012. I love him as an actor, he bursts with joy--and he's a friend as well. The three of us have done some lovely work together. Kim McKean is new to me but she and Craig have worked together and I like her very much.

Which “S” word best describes your show: SMOOTH, SEXY, SMART, SURPRISING?
Surprising. I want to be surprised when I see theater and I like to surprise.

Who are your heroes?
Shakespeare, Thornton Wilder, Edward Albee, Richard Foreman, Elizabeth Streb, Ann Carlson, Christopher Eaves, Richard Maxwell.
