Enter Singing – The Musical q&a preview by Linda Evans (LG Evans)
June 17, 2013

What is your job on this show?
Playwright, dIrector, co-producer.

What is your show about?
ENTER SINGING the Musical: Four Finalists vie in Times Square for the title of Best Playwright in the USA and probably the world who enter writing and exit standing!

When did you know you wanted to work in the theater, and why?
My MFA is in Filmmaking from Columbia College, Chicago. I placed high the Nichol Fellowship for screenwriting. During the making of my thesis film in Chicago I was extorted by some want to be young members of the Mafia and then again I was exhorted in Tucson, AZ. I was told there was no money in the live theater; since there was no money, I wouldn't be extorted. Therefore, I fell in love with the Theater!

Complete this sentence: My show is the only one opening in NYC this summer that...?
was sparked by someone "getting in my face and yelling at me." She is Sibyl Kempson, a New Dramatists. She had discovered my serious play, as a reader for the Great Plains Theater Conference in 2011. She had just been on a panel promoting the New Dramatists and saw me in the lobby. Sibyl saw me and said I should apply for the ND; I answered that I was too old. She proceeded to rip into me! Wow! I thought. What a character! The spark of the concept of ENTER SINGING the musical errupted from a real live confrontation in front of about 20 playwrights.

How did you meet your fellow artists/collaborators on this show?
Coming from filmmaking I enjoy the collaborative process. You have to spark something in your actors to get them "on the bus." And then you have to take them somewhere emotionally dangerous.

Which famous person would you most like to get a fan letter from: Denzel Washington, Maggie Smith, Ang Lee, Audra McDonald?
I would love a fan letter from a big time producer like Stone who produces WICKED. I learned at the Commerical Theater Institute that big producers don't get attached unless they see "dollar signs." I hope to make a lot of people a lot of money with ENTER SINGING the Musical

If you had ten million dollars that you had to spend on theatrical endeavors, how would you use the money?
I would use the 10 Million to support my newly created ENSEMBLE of actor/vocalists for ENTER SINGING. They are my new family! you have $10 million dollars?
