KRiEp - a Grusical in Seven Deadly Scenes

nytheatre.com q&a preview by Kendra Slack
July 21, 2012

What is your job on this show?
Choreographer.

When did you know you wanted to work in the theater, and why?
I realized I wanted to work in theater when I was still in high school. I went to a very difficult school academically, and even though I got good grades, I realized what was truly making me happy was theater and dance. I decided I would rather do something I loved with my life rather than something I just happened to do well.

If you're a New Yorker: why is FringeNYC an important part of the summer theater scene?
I think Fringe is important because it gives new work the opportunity to grow and audiences the opportunity to be exposed to these new pieces.

Are there any cautions or warnings you’d like to make about the show (e.g., not appropriate for little kids)?
I would caution parents against bringing young children to the show. KRiEp deals with some very adult themes that might not be appropriate for kids.

Which “S” word best describes your show: SMOOTH, SEXY, SMART, SURPRISING?
Sexy...in a very dark way

Why should people come to FringeNYC this summer, rather than the beach, mountains, or the latest movie blockbuster?
The unique thing about theater as an art form is that it is temporary and it is ever-changing. A particular performance of a show will only ever happen once and it will be different than all the others because theater is about witnessing life and sharing a story with live people that adapt and evolve. That experience you can't find at a movie.
