Mother Divine: The Musical q&a preview by Howie Michael Smith
June 23, 2013

What is your job on this show?

What is your show about?
This show is a fantasy based around the ministry of Father Divine’s Peace Mission Movement. Turned into musical comedy!

What do you do when you’re not working on a play?
I write and direct sketches for my YouTube channel "Sillyocity". It helps keep the creative juices flowing and provides a way to constantly keep my face out there.

Who is more important in the theater: the actor, the playwright, or the director?
Well, I don't think you can have a successful play without the three elements all working together. Everyone needs to be on the same page.

Is there a particular moment in this show that you really love or look forward to? Without giving away surprises, what happens in that moment and why does it jazz you?
Oh, end of Act I. Things get CRAZY. Seance, Ghostly posession, physical comedy....CRAZY.

Groucho, Chico, Harpo, or Zeppo?
Ummmm. ALL OF THEM! They work beautifully together!

Why are theater festivals so very important?
Getting people to see new work from talented writers that may otherwise not have the opportunity.
